innoculated with mycelium Tuesday August 19....1997

Tuesday August 19....1997

Innoculated 7 small 500ml mason jars with sport solution from Hi times.
I autoclaved white millet, which (dry) took up 1/4 of the jar. When water absorbed, the millet expanded 70%. The jars are now 3/4 full. Used small aquarium as sterile environment.

Constructed a growing shelf. This will come into play almost immediatly... It has 2 levels,
bottom for mycelia birth/develop cycle in aquarium... and top level for humid, grow environment. Tested humidifier... It seems to be OK.. Now the wait.

thrursday August 21 1997

Growing shelf is in effect... Have aquarium filled with jars, water is heated with
submersible heater at 85 degrees. Have to add salt water to eliminate
bacteria!! No signs of growth yet!

Saturday August 23 1997

First signs of Mycelial Growth on the millet. 85 degrees is maintained. All jars except 1.
No signs of contamination!!(yet) Fluffy little clouds.
Have to add salt to the aquarium.

Breaking even on my overhead.....
Pressure Cooker....160.00

Sunday August 24 1997

All Jars are getting that fuzzy white stuff on them, with a quickness!!!
It's a mutha!! Have to top off chamber with water.

tuesday August 26 1997

Shook Jars yesterday. Some showing immediate growth.
Nelson interested in growing now. Dork. He just wants the money$$$$$$$$$$$
Stars upabove, my interests catch on, but with a different light!!!

Wed. September 3 1997

ABORT MUTHA FUCKER>>>>>
I'm vexed, but I'm glad that i caught the signs in time.. I have to start over with the remaining
spore solution that I have. The problem was in the procedure of not sealing the caps properly on the jars.. Major leakage into the jars, with some slime growth, that is obviously detrimental to the growth of the mycelium.....
Redo tomorrow or Friday.... The other steps seemed to be A O K.

SEPTEMBER 9th 1997

Yesterday, I Did some more millet jars...innoculated, and placed them into chamber, maintaining @ 85 degrees!!
Hope to see progress this time!! Now once again, it's on!!!!
There is still 2 jars from last batch. One with millet and mycelia, but the mycelia is growing
very slow. The other one, I dumped all the millet. A few bits stuck to the side, and there
seems to be healthy mycelia growing on it! We'll see what happens!!

**old text file of a brief diary of my first excursion into growing mushrooms.
It ended up working out ..but not noted in my original notes.
